Help Support Clean Energy: Sign the Mile Long Petition

Wise County has seen more mountaintop removal and other harmful methods of strip mining than any other county in Appalachia, except one. Almost 60,000 acre – a quarter of the entire county – has already been strip mined. At the same time such an enormous wealth is being extracted from Wise and other Virginia coal counties, they remain among the poorest counties in Virginia.
Now Dominion Energy has proposed building a dirty coal-fired power plant in Wise County, Virginia that will pollute the air and water, further destroy our mountains, and contribute to global warming.
Citizen’s of Southwest Virginia are standing up for their mountains and communities by leading a grassroots campaign to defeat the plant.
They have been joined by allies across Appalachia and will deliver a mile long petition, 50,000 strong, to Dominion and Governor Kaine, on May 8th in Richmond.
The petition calls on Dominion to stop building coal fired power plants like this one proposed for Wise County, and to dedicate its resources towards developing a clean energy economy for Virginia focused on energy efficiency, conservation, renewable energy and economic prosperity.
